Taylor Hicks Says Music Industry Is Sometimes Phony - Chelsea Lately - Video - American Idol

chelsea.jpg

Taylor Hicks was on Chelsea Lately this past week and he had a lot to say about the msuc industry and his role in it.

It was actually refreshing for somebody to say these kinds of things about an industry that is so hot and cold when it comes to its talent.

One thing that really struck me about Hicks’ interview was his candidness with Chelsea Handler regarding everything: his gray hair, his choice of songs, his song lyrics, snarky though they are and most importantly, his music.

He even talked a little about his past experiences, not all good, in the industry and what he would like to do to help resureect his career. I think he’s on the right path; he just needs the right people to work with and I think he’ll be on his way again.

He’s obviously very talented. One listen to his lyrics tells you the guy is deep and has a lot to say about the world. That’s the kind of singer I wanna listen to, that’s for sure.

Check out his new album, “The Distance,” available everywhere.

Taylor Hicks - What’s Right Is Right - Video - American Idol

Taylor Hicks has a new album coming out, called “The Distance.” If you don’t already have it, or have heard tracks from his album, I have a sneak peek of one single from the album, called “What’s Right Is Right.”

It’s great, eh? He played this on Ellen last week and I’ve gotta say…it has promise! For a guy weho won American Idol, he has had some of the worst luck of any of the Idol winners to date. Hopefully things start to turn around for Hicks, who is an eminently likeable guy.

This particular cut is soulful and it reminds me of some Bruce Hornsby. Can you imagine Hicks singing “Mandolin Rain?” Wow. It’s definitely got that rocker, soulful, bluesy vibe going on and I like it!

American Idol Chitchat - 1/5/09 - David Archuleta, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Hicks

We’re still tweaking everything in advance of next week’s Idol 8 debut, but we’re getting there! In the next week you’ll see lots of changes here and we’ve completely moved all of our content to this site!

First up on a busy Monday, David Archuleta braved freezing temperatures in Salt Lake City (Believe me, I know…I live here) to sing the national anthem for the Governor’s Inauguration honoring Jon M. Huntsman Jr (Video above.) Obviously a big honor, one of many for the superstar. He also spent the past week performing with the Osmond brothers (who are reportedly some part of Idol 8, although that has yet to be confirmed) during New Year’s celebrations in Utah. - Team Archie

We have some bad news regarding Kelly Clarkson and her new album! Apparently somebody jumped the gun (it’s all good, MJ) and reported that the title of her album will not be “Masquerade.” It will in fact be announced at a later date, but first I’d like to say something about the dearth of information that is always available to us American Idol fans. It is absolutely ridiculous that the people representing these musicians can’t get their crap together and send up what we need to write an accurate story! I will say this: I do think several singers associated with Idol, who will remain anonymous, do a half-decent job of getting out the information. But that’s only because of their self-promoting, in my view. The number one Achilles heel of Idol and FOX and 19 Entertainment is that they often don’t want us getting information. And so this is why somebody gets something like the Kelly Clarkson information wrong. It isn‘t her fault. - MJ’s Big Blog

And finally, Taylor Hicks is ahead of schedule on releasing his new album, titled “The Distance.” I know this because (and only because) of the fact that Hicks’ own label is producing the album. I doubt he’d want to lie about (or simply hide) information that may help him promote his album, unlike Kelly Clarkson’s people, who seem to be quite content withholding information from people like me, who have a job to do and would like to promote not only her album, but the albums from all of the Idols. So to Taylor Hicks, I say thank you for being upfront, for not being a pompous ass, and for doing your job, which in turn makes ours easier. - My Rocket Science
