Jennifer Hudson helped out the folks at Netflix in a big way during their 70th anniversary of the hit movie “Wizard Of Oz” on Central Park last night.
Hudson is definitely making a comeback from the horrific deaths of her family members, and making it back where she should be after wedding reality TV star David Otunga.
Her career looks like it’s headed on the right track as well, making for what should be a very successful 2010 for the pop diva.
Singing “Over The Rainbow” may be tough for some, but not Hudson, as she belted out a terrific version of the song on this night in Manhattan.
The girl can work it out wherever she goes, and knock out whatever she sings.
Then to cap the historic night off in true diva style, Adele took the stage with India.Arie, singing “Because I Am A Queen.” Couldn’t have said it any better myself. A magical night for all, indeed.
Jennifer Hudson had the tour de force performance during the Michael Jackson Memorial in my opinion, exacting the same kind of pain that Jackson might have had, had he been with us for his final comeback shows in London.
Hudson obviously knows something about pain, since she lost several family members last year.
I think Hudson was really the only person who could have sung this song with so much heartache. A very moving performance followed by some simple words I think all of us felt: “We love you, Michael.”
For all of you who still think Jennifer Hudson might not be pregnant, there is now circumstantial proof–other than actually pulling up the woman’s shirt.
And as you know, that’s illegal. Plus, her man “Punk” wouldn’t take too kindly to you doing that.
Here she is walking out of KFC. Looks like she’s eating for two. Or three.
Jennifer Hudson is pregnant, according to numerous sources. And the daddy is David Otunga, better known as “Punk” when he vied for reality TV star New York’s love on VH1’s I Love New York 2.
Hudson just had her baby shower Saturday, and Hudson is about seven months along at this point.
And something is obviously going on, because she has cancelled or postponed several appearances.
She recently postponed dates on her concert tour with Robin Thicke, claiming vocal cord strain. She has worn loose-wasted tops at some recent public appearances, furthering the speculation.
Well, let there be no speculation now. And this is definitely welcome news for somebody who has seen a lot of bad things in the past year.
It’s gonna be a big week on American Idol 8, with Quentin Tarantino, a big Idol fan in his own right, coming to hear the Top 7 sing “Idols at the Movies.”
More on that tomorrow, but first the biggest news of the week is that Jennifer Hudson will be singing her new hit, “If This Isn’t Love,” on Wednesday during the results show.
You can watch the video above, but I have to say it’s good that she’s back and doing so well after all the tragedy she had to deal with last year. What a mess.
Anyway, Hudson is proof positive that you can turn things around in a hurry and continue heading toward success, even in the worst possible moments.
In this economy and with the job market being so unpredictable (believe me, my Today.com income is my second highest right now) Hudson and the Idols are a nice diversion from all of the pain and suffering.
Although let’s be honest: I can’t think of anyone who has had to go through more pain and suffering than Hudson, so keep your head up, America.
It probably wasn’t the way she wanted to remember such a tremendous year in relation to her profession, singing, but Jennifer Hudson capped off what has been a successful year by winning a Grammy for Best R&B Album for her self-titled first release.
With the murders of her close family members and all, Hudson has had too much to think about in the past several months, but it is nice that she is getting the recognition she certainly deserves.
There will be those who say the reason she won this Grammy is simply because of the tragic events that have happened in her life and the voters sympathy, but Hudson is one fo the best singers on the planet and so I don’t think that the “sympathy vote” applies to her.
That said, I hope she takes a break at some point and reflects on what has happened and what she can do to not only further her career, but also go forward with her personal life.
Above is a heartfelt, tear-jerking performance that speaks volumes to the kind of passion Hudson has for her music and which resonates with people who enjoy her. Congratulations to Miss Hudson on an honor well deserved.
And Carrie Underwood also took home a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for her song “Last Name.”
Jennifer Hudson has had to deal with so much after losing her mother. brother and nephew to senseless, horrific murders in Chicago several months ago.
The fact she is even performing after such a short time to mourn is commendable. To do it on one of the biggest stages in the world, at the Super Bowl, is even more amazing.
But she did, causing an old journalist like myself to well up. But I think the reason I cried had more to do with what she’s had to overcome, as opposed to what she’s doing up there.
Her song was nevertheless excellent, particularly the last few notes. The game itself was wracked with drama early on, but then it settled down and into the fourth quarter. Kurt Warner rallied his Arizona Cardinals from a 13-point deficit to take the lead at 23-20 before the Pittsburgh Steelers scored in the final minute to win 27-23.
It was a game of comebacks and Jennifer Hudson being on that stage to me personified never giving up, even when so many things she cherished, had been taken from her.
Truly a momentous occasion and one that I think many Hudson fans — and those who admire strong-willed individuals — will carry in their hearts forever.
It’s been a busy week for us, since Idol 8 is now underway. This week they’ll go to auditions in Salt Lake City, followed by San Juan, Puerto Rico and wrap up in New York.
Meanwhile, Idols of old have been making news. Here’s what happened this week:
Kelly Clarkson announced last week that her new album would be coming out, but now in an attempt to boost her record sales her company has issued a free download of her new song, “My Life Would Suck Without You.” Talk about a downer title for a song! They couldn’t have picked a more eye-catching tune, unless it were called “I’ll Blow My Brains Out Unless You Buy My Song.” I’m just hypothesizing here, but c’mon, people…Really…
Guess who’s coming to your Super Bowl party? After a much-needed break in which three members of her family were reportedly murdered over some money and a domestic squabble, Jennifer Hudson will perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. I doubt seriously if there will be any “wardrobe malfunction,” but you never know. This will mark the first time Hudson has performed since the grisly murders of her mother, brother and nephew. Here’s hoping she can get her career back where it was; obviously it’s gonna be hard carrying the memories of her loved ones.
And finally, Elliott Yamin will be releasing his second album on May 5. He says he has written about 35 songs for the album, but they’re still in the selection stages and so there has been no decision as to which ones will be on it. When we know, we’ll certainly give you that information. But here’s some more: Yamin has been working with the likes of J.R. Rotem and Jermaine Dupri, so it’s gotta be pretty good. Nothing Yamin usually does is bad and so I’m really looking forward to his album.
Well, as I indicated Idol 8 is off and rolling, but we’ll keep you up-to-date on all the big news every weekend, the things that aren’t happening at Idol 8.
Frenchie Davis (above photo) was back in the spotlight this week. If you remember exactly, she was the heavy-lunged singer who was essentially booted out of American Idol early for having some risqué pictures on the Internet. In a bit of a departure from that, Davis was giving out hundreds of free tickets in Sarasota, Fla. to her show, “Aint Misbehavin’” which is on a nationwide tour. The catch is she gave out the free tickets at a redevelopment office in a section of Sarasota called Newtown, which is run-down and predominately African-American. So Davis felt she was doing something nice for the community. - Suncoast News
Yes, we have yet another Idol 8 spoiler for you. This person already has music out at Target and CD Universe. The singer’s father did “The Gator” chomp on national TV during the auditions, even though he didn’t wanna be embarrassed on FOX, reportedly. Also, there were rumors this singer already had a record contract in place from a Nashville-based company, but those rumors were proven to be unfounded. Wanna hear more about this new Top 50 contestant? Then read more when we reveal this singer this week!
And finally, despite rumors to the contrary, Jennifer Hudson will not be singing at the Presidential Inauguration for Barack Obama, according to her rep. It was first reported by the New York Post that Hudson was in negotiations to sing “The Star Spangled Banner” at the January 20th inauguration, but the rep flatly denied Hudson would be singing at the inauguration ceremony. Hudson performed the national anthem at Obama’s Democratic National Convention in Denver. However, she has not performed since the tragic Chicago murders of her mother, brother and nephew. She will be performing for the first time since those murders on February 6 in a concert honoring Neil Diamond in Los Angeles. - NBC Chicago
