American Idol Legend Alexis Cohen Laid To Rest Today

cohen-ai8.jpg

American Idol’s “Glitter Girl,” the unforgettable and irrepressible Alexis Cohen was laid to rest today in Cohen’s hometown of Allentown, Pa.

About 100 mourners attended the funeral service, including Cohen’s ex-boyfriend James Kern, who was “shocked, stunned and mortified” once he heard what had happened to Cohen.

In Idol lore, there will probably never be another like Cohen, who is one of few Idols to have made it on television in consecutive years.

It was reported by her mother that she made the second round of auditions for the third consecutive year in 2010–as Cohen reportedly tried her hand at country–but we may never know if she actually did make it on the show.

Investigations into Cohen’s death are ongoing and suspect Daniel Bark remains in jail in Seaside Heights, N.J. on $150,000 bail.

Defense Attorney: Alexis Cohen May Have Committed Suicide, Or Been Impaired At Time Of Her Death

cohen-final-perf.jpg

Sounds like the suspect in the Alexis Cohen hit-and-run murder case is gonna have his day in court, and from the looks of it, it doesn’t look good for the prosecution.

From People:

“There will be a not guilty plea entered across the board for all of the complaints,” says Freehold, N.J.-based lawyer Daniel Glassman, noting that no one has come forward as a witness to the hit-and-run.

“We don’t have anything in regards to the mechanics of how this young woman was killed,” Glassman adds. “There are a lot of unanswered questions regarding how the accident occurred.”

In other words, don’t bother sending any Holiday cards to Glassman, who is probably right. Meantime, Bark is still in jail in $150,000 bail, which was previously raised from a paltry $35,000 initially.

And the lone suspect in Cohen’s death is apparently on suicide and medication watch. Hmm…

Bark’s attorney also brought up a valid point, which is counter to what Cohen’s mom said (she thought her daughter was chilling at Six Flags at 4 a.m.!). And, it does again open up the possibility of Cohen killing herself:

Glassman says that Cohen, 25, was in a bar called Hemingway’s prior to her death and that it is “under an investigation to determine what Alexis’s activities were before she left.”

“We don’t know what her state of affairs were, her physical condition was, if she walked into the vehicle,” says the lawyer. “We don’t know about the lighting in the area, there are a myriad of factors.”

Oh, no. Is it a suicide, as I predicted?

Alexis Cohen Update: Her Death Not A Suicide, Suspect May Get More Bail

cohen-ai8.jpgcohen-killer.jpg

Alexis Cohen’s death was apparently accidental and not a suicide as some including me suspected.  Also, suspect 23-year-old Daniel Bark, may be looking at more charges as this case gets going. Bark had his hearing and things don’t look good from where I’m standing for Bark.

Of course, that’s why they have such a thing as a fair trial. But I’d say things aren’t looking feasible for such a thing.

From NJ.com:

The man accused in the hit-and-run death of Alexis Cohen, a former American Idol contestant, may face additional charges, authorities said today during the 23-year-old’s first appearance in court in Ocean County.

Daniel Bark has been charged with leaving the scene of Saturday’s accident that killed Cohen, 25, of Allentown, Pa. Superior Court Judge Wendell E. Daniels said today he expects additional charges of aggravated manslaughter, death by auto and eluding to be added to the list.

If Bark can somehow make it through this, he’ll then have to deal with Cohen’s mother Mindy, who has already said publicly she’s like to get her hands on Bark.

Any way you want to look at it, it’s a sad deal, and the worst part is we never get to see Cohen singing country. I would have paid a million dollars for that.

Alexis Cohen’s Mother Says Her Daughter Was Going Country On American Idol 9 Before Her Death

cohen-rip-idol.jpg

Whoa, talk about interesting. Despite numerous reports that Alexis Cohen was met at the door of the American Idol 9 Boston auditions and denied entry, Cohen’s mother Mindy Dallow told a local newspaper the opposite.

In fact, Dallow’s story and the one we previously heard were so different that I’ll just touch briefly on some of the highlights:

- Cohen was given a call-back at the Boston auditions;

- Cohen sang country, particularly a Rascal Flatts song at the Boston audition and was “excited” about her chances for the 9th season of Idol;

- Cohen was also planning a career in stand-up, which sort of explains the two routines she posted on her MySpace page the day before her death;

And finally, she was at the Jersey shore visiting Six Flags amusement park to “escape the heat.”

The main question is: what was Cohen doing at 4 a.m.? Was Six Flags still open at that time of the morning? Cohen’s mother says Alexis was in the process of getting something “to eat” when she was struck by the vehicle.

And why were those video stand-up routines so weird? It all makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

All I know, is that there are lots of questions left unanswered by the death of Cohen, and hopefully there will be some closure soon.

Alexis Cohen Update - Suspect Arrested In Her Alleged Hit-and-Run Death

cohen-ai8.jpg

Well, we have a lead in the weekend death of “Glitter Girl” Alexis Cohen. Polive have arrested 23-year-old Daniel Bark of Toms River, N.J. in connection with Cohen’s death.

It is suspected that Bark may have been driving under the influence at the time and that he is charged with several counts, including reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

If convicted, Bark faces a minimum of 10 years.

Sounds like it might not be a suicide, after all, which is good, but it’s still early in the investigation.

Also, why would Cohen put out such disturbing material on her MySpace page one day before she dies? It’s a coincidence, possibly, but it’s still strange.

Also, Bark is only being held on $35,000 bail. Is there more to this story than people are saying, because that amount is extremely low for a vehicular homicide charge…Oh, well, guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Alexis Cohen - Final Performances Released Day Before Her Death - Practicing Stand-Up Comedy - A Suicide Note?

cohen-final-perf.jpg

Alexis Cohen released two videos on her MySpace page the day before she was found dead, having been hit by a car. I’m not sure who she’s performing for, but this is clearly some disturbing material and may be her mea culpa.

Prophetic? Yeah, weirdly so.

In her first video, she is more PG with the occasional F-bomb thrown in, talking about sex and her boyfriend playing too many video games. She also discusses how she hates her job. It almost looks like it’s produced in an art studio. Hmm…

cohen-final-perf-2.jpg

In the second video, called “I’m Tired,” dressed in all black Cohen goes off on everyone. She talks about her boss, her neighbors, being on major networks, living in the projects, and living among roaches that she named because she knew them so well. How tragic.

The most disturbing thing in part two is her racist rant about blacks and Mexicans, which is odd considering she was seen with several black friends at the Idol 9 Boston auditions attempting to get more TV time.

Cohen also talks about having chocolate as a drug, hating work and being tired of everything and everybody.  It almost sounds like Cohen’s suicide note, if you want the truth. Hopefully, police don’t find it to be the case.

If it is a suicide, that’s two former Idol contestants in less than a year, and that’s not a trend, that’s a problem.

Alexis Cohen Dead at 25 Update: Car Struck, Killed Her - American Idol

cohen-ai8.jpg

As you all know now, former American Idol contestant Alexis Cohen was killed yesterday morning.

The autopsy determined that a vehicle hit Cohen, causing the injuries that led to her death hours later:

From Allentown Morning Call:

Former ”American Idol” contestant Alexis Cohen, whose profanity-laced rant on national television garnered her a bizarre sort of fame, was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Saturday in Seaside Heights, N.J., according to the Ocean County prosecutor’s office.Cohen’s death, by ”chest and abdominal injuries, along with a closed head injury secondary to a motor vehicle collision,” has been ruled a homicide, said Michael Mohel, deputy chief of the prosecutor’s office.

Oh, no! This doesn’t sound good at all. Perhaps somebody was out to get “Glitter Girl.” What do you think will come of this investigation? I’ll bet it was somebody she knew.

Anyway, here is a clip of her season 8 audition, in which she turned over a new leaf, so to speak. Until Simon went after her, that is. Then she reverted back to her old, famous ways. Ah, Alexis, we’ll never forget you.

American Idol Contestant Alexis Cohen Dead At 25

cohen-rip-idol.jpg

The one and only “Glitter Girl,” Alexis Cohen, was found dead by two pedestrians along a Seaside Heights, N.J. street early this morning. She was only 25. How sad.

The cause of death is still unknown. An autopsy will be scheduled later today.

Cohen was the memorable face of American Idol who famously cussed out Simon Cowell during season 7 at the Philadelphia auditions, winning the hearts of people the world over after he poked fun at her performance of a Janis Joplin song.

More details as they become available…
