The moment of truth is finally here…who will win American Idol 8? Will it be Adam, the flamboyant rock star, or will it be Kris, the mild-mannered kid from Arkansas and a hit with the ladies?

It really is a tale of two differing people–and cultures–here on display for America and the world.

How fitting that in such an historic Presidential election year that we finally see the day when the words of the late poet Allen Ginsberg are perhaps fulfilled.

At the end of the day, all we truly have for one another is love, and if we’re somehow lucky enough to be able to share that with someone, be it through music, or art, or whatever medium, then we should feel fortunate to call it a day.

Except in the case of Adam, this opens a new chapter in what has probably been a disappointing run in the music business–until Idol, of course.

I think something that people fail to take into account is that a lot of these so-called “ringers,” Adam included, have basically failed in the music biz and Idol is their only hope.

Kris is a bit of a different story, somebody who is virtually unknown but immensely talented as well, taking a different path into the business than Adam.

But it has been one that has been good for Kris also: Christian music.

My hope is that in this historic year the best singer wins. Some are calling this finale a “culture war,” others are choosing to ignore such remarks.

My take is this: If the best singer doesn’t win, then perhaps we haven’t come as far as we had originally thought.

Based on some of the comments received on the Web site I would say we still have a ways to go, but in order to be fair to both individuals, may the best man win and take the title of the best American Idol ever.

The finale is just hours away and I know you have thoughts on it so please do share yours.
