Jennifer Hudson Returns - National Anthem - Super Bowl XLIII - American Idol
Jennifer Hudson has had to deal with so much after losing her mother. brother and nephew to senseless, horrific murders in Chicago several months ago.
The fact she is even performing after such a short time to mourn is commendable. To do it on one of the biggest stages in the world, at the Super Bowl, is even more amazing.
But she did, causing an old journalist like myself to well up. But I think the reason I cried had more to do with what she’s had to overcome, as opposed to what she’s doing up there.
Her song was nevertheless excellent, particularly the last few notes. The game itself was wracked with drama early on, but then it settled down and into the fourth quarter. Kurt Warner rallied his Arizona Cardinals from a 13-point deficit to take the lead at 23-20 before the Pittsburgh Steelers scored in the final minute to win 27-23.
It was a game of comebacks and Jennifer Hudson being on that stage to me personified never giving up, even when so many things she cherished, had been taken from her.
Truly a momentous occasion and one that I think many Hudson fans — and those who admire strong-willed individuals — will carry in their hearts forever.

Stumble It!
