American Idle

Well, what do ya know? If it aint the Southern Santy Claus!! LOL Anyway, Harold “Bo” Bice was sending out some Christmas spirit over yonder. I couldn’t tell if “A Very Merry Christmas” was a Lynnrd Skynrd or a Doobie Brothers song but it sure as heck rocked! In fact, it’s now my official Christmas song!! Memo to Bo’s street team: This song could play in every biker bar from Florida to whatever dive Amanda Overmyer’s rocking at. It’s pretty catchy!!

Bo Bice was rock ‘n roll for American Idol before some guy named Daughtry came along and smashed all the notions of a rock star on Idol. Bo came along when we were searching for ourselves and fighting a war we weren’t sure of. He was our Eric Clapton (sort of, if he had a beard, which he did) to Daughtry’s Scott Stapp impersonation.

Now Bo’s got a couple more kids, a loving wife and he’s playing songs alright, on a family TV station called MyTV for a show called Spirit Of Christmas. He still looks like Clapton (if you count Clapton’s days in Cream) with all the long, flowing hair and scruffy beard, but his sound is different.

Maybe if he shaved off the beard and chopped his hair down to a manageable length he wouldn’t scare all the kids. Or maybe he would. I don’t know. I just know if I were an industry type banging away on my BlackBerry and pretending to care about some singer from Alabama I would want someone who could project an image suitable for those who watch Idol…y’know, the kids!

All told Bo is a phenomenal talent. He just might wanna lay off that rocker look and go for something more contemporary if he actually wants a career.
