Michael Johns’ new song “Another Christmas” comes out on iTunes today, in advance of his new album, which is yet untitled, gonna be a “rootsy” joint and is due to arrive sometime early in 2009.

Johns is looking to parlay his success from American Idol 7 into his new album, but first he’ll put out his first-ever Christmas song…and it has a special meaning in his heart.

You see, Johns has decided to give all of his proceeds from “Another Christmas” to charity, specifically the charity benefiting Lou Gehrig’s Disease and the Red Cross from the United States.

Johns wrote the song back in 2006 when he learned he couldn’t be home in his native Australia for the holidays, so the song has been written well before his time on Idol 7. But Johns is also friends with Access Hollywood’s Nancy O’Dell.

Their friendship coerced him to help her out since she lost her mother to Lou Gehrig’s recently and so the idea was born for Johns to donate the proceeds from his new Christmas song to charity!

Nowadays it’s such a rarity for a musician to donate all of their proceeds to any charity, let alone one specific cause and so it’s great to see that in a time of giving Johns is really stepping up and making a difference for these people afflicted with such a terrible disease.
