Michael Johns Rocks The Phillippines! - American Idol 7 - Michael Johns
In what seems to be American Idol’s home away from home, yet another former Idol rocked The Phillippines! This time around it was Michael Johns, the transplanted Aussie from season 7 who is preparing to release a Christmas song sometime in December.
Johns sang “Bohemian Rhapsody” for the ASAP TV show in the capital city of Manila. It was his first time in what will probably be hundreds in the country. Like other Idols (Taylor Hicks comes to mind), Johns is also doing a shopping mall tour over there.
Going on a shopping mall tour seems to be a rite of passage for those Idols who don’t immediately put out an album, or who don’t have the same level of success as say, David Cook. That’s not to say Johns isn’t talented; he certainly is. But there are different levels of Idol fame.
And as usual, Johns tore it up on the ASAP show but what was going on with his backup singer? A tad out there perhaps? What’s with all the high-pitched screechy notes? Did Rickey Minor catch a flight over for the show? Yikes!
If you don’t already know (or didn‘t pay attention in geography class), The Phillippines are a chain of islands in Asia. They are not connected to the United States but with the overabundance of Idols, you would think it was.
