Paula Goodspeed’s tragic death in front of Paula Abdul’s home on Tuesday evening sent shockwaves through the Idol community and was the most talked about story of the day, eclipsing even President-elect Barack Obama.

While everyone was quick to point out Goodspeed may have had mental problems, some family members have gone on the record disputing those claims. Her brother, who lives in Maine, went so far as to say that Goodspeed told him she had coffee with Paula Abdul, the person others are saying Goodspeed was obsessed with, back in 2005. That story has not been confirmed.

He also said Goodspeed doesn’t have a criminal record, nor has she had as much as a traffic violation. According to him, Goodspeed moved to California to become an actress five years ago. He said the Idol experience made her feel badly, but she wasn’t broken up by it, as some media outlets have reported.

That’s not what someone close to Abdul is saying, however. They’re asserting that in the days leading up to her death Goodspeed may have sent Abdul some flowers. Goodspeed also made several visits to Abdul’s home and made hundreds of phone calls, according to the source.

Goodspeed also started looking into a music career, even hiring a singing coach and a producer. According to the producer Goodspeed only completed one full song and he felt Goodspeed was “delusional.”

It will be interesting to hear what Abdul has to say about this supposed coffee meeting, or if she’ll say anything at all! Originally, she released a short two-paragraph statement after Goodspeed’s death. Will Goodspeed’s only song be released?

Official reports of Goodspeed’s autopsy have also not been released yet. Goodspeed’s boyfriend and mother are in Los Angeles awaiting the results. How very sad indeed.
