American Idle

Nobody in the mainstream world ever hears much about Chris Sligh these days, but that’s probably because he’s been busy tearing up the music charts in the highly popular but somewhat unknown Christian music market.

With all the talk lately about Idols like Corey Clark, Jessica Sierra and Nikki McKibbin, the latter currently starring on Celebrity Rehab 2, Sligh is none of those things. He’s a good guy (and that label comes from everybody who’s met him) and a former rocker from American Idol 6 whose effusive style endeared him to the crowds and to America.

Naturally Americans loved his easy-going style and bouncy dreadlocks, along with the bottleneck glasses. If only Sligh had been able to play his guitar (a rule Idol implemented the year after his run on the show) things might have been different and Sligh may have been standing under the shower of confetti instead of champion Jordin Sparks.

But Sligh hasn’t let his early exit affect his music career at all. All he’s done is have several Christian music hits, including his Top 10 hit “Empty Me.” And it looks like there is no sign of stopping for the South Carolina native. So good for him and all the best to him.
